Lorie Grooms, CMP
Lorie has10+ years experience in the event planning industry. Her career began while working for a non-profit organization, where one of her many tasks included organizing an annual fundraising banquet. She soon discovered that planning the banquet was most enjoyable – preparing for the event, the busy event day, welcoming guests, the excitement of the production, and the feeling of success at the close of the evening. After finding her niche, she decided to change her focus to strictly events – year round. As an independent event planner she continues to work with a variety of groups to create memorable experiences.
Lorie graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 2011 she earned her CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) accreditation from the
Events Industry Council and awarded recertification in 2016. Throughout her career she has received recognition for her work, including the Future Leader of the Year from the Tallahassee Society of Association Executives (now the Florida Society of Association Executives), and was a part of the Association of the Year team, while working at the Florida School Nutrition Association, also awarded by the Tallahassee Society of Association Executives.
Outside of work, Lorie spends time volunteering. Recently, she served as President for the Rotary Club of Dulles International Airport and is a board member of the Tough Tots Fund. She is also an active member of MPI (Meeting Professionals International - Potomac Chapter), and has served on the boards of several other non-profit organizations. Along with her husband, she competes in triathlons of varying distances (including two full Ironman races in 2015 and 2019), enjoys learning about wine, and always has a craft project in the works.
